Middle Road - Dunkirk, New York
Saturday, March 20th, 1999

Early on a sunny but cold Saturday morning, I ventured on down to Dunkirk, New York and spent the early part of my day at the Middle Road Crossing.  This crossing cuts right through the small Dunkirk Yard just west of the Purina Plant.  The road crossing has 7 tracks crossing it, and it is quite a nice place to trainwatch. Below, is a photo essay of what I saw that day.  Special Thanks to Dave Coleman for help on identifying the trains featued in this photo essay...

CSX #6221 - An EMD GP40 leading the eastbound NPSE-9 at 9:59am on Track #2.

LOOK AT THIS!!! Fresh out of GE in Erie, Pennsylvania, is Burlington Northern and Santa Fe #4375 leading train ENG-3BU.  Typically, GE will send new units to Buffalo, where they are placed in service, before heading west to their new homes.  Sites like these are common, but may not be forever, so get your shots while you can...

Leading the eastbound BRSE-9 at 10:22am is Conrail C40-8W #6078. This unit was in Conrail's first order of Dash-8's from back in 1990-91, and still remains in original paint.

Leading this eastbound coal train at 10:51am is Conrail #6048, one of Big Blue's few C40-8's.

Leading the westbound BUPI at 10:55am is SD60I #5597.
