Lewisburg Yard

The photo on the left is looking east at Lewisburg Yard, where an inbound train has pulled into the yard to be classified.  The area around McFalls, VA, is above this scene on a narrow portion of the upper level. The photo on the right shows the Lewisburg Yard Job switching cars at the old freighthouse, now partially leased by S.J. Neathawk Lumber for warehouse space. The railroad's division offices are in the two-story portion of this building. On the upper level above this portion of the yard is the town of New Castle, VA.

This shot taken late in the February 2003 operating session shows a busy time at Lewisburg. Two SD60's, one with an experimental yellow plow, are on Main Two with a coal train that has just added a pusher for the run east.  Coming east on Main One is intermodal train 234 behind an all-Conrail lashup.  Working on the yard lead is SD40-2 6100 on the CL03 third shift yard job.  Photo by Stephen Link.
