There are not many S scale traction products
available. I'm searching. If anyone knows of any sources of S scale
traction supplies please e-mail
me. -- Thanks, Craig.
Many thanks to
Dennis Conway for his invaluable
assistance in putting together the information for this
page.
From S scale traction modeler Thorin Marty (12/15/05):
Baldwin Westinghouse Class B Steeplecab kits in S Scale are being etched right
now! Get your orders in! (Also O Scale.) The price is $129.95 each. This kit
consists of the frame, short hoods, cab walls, and roof. It does not include
mechanism, handrails, headlights, trucks, trolley poles, pantographs, etc. Just
the bare shell. They are taking orders for other S Scale kits as well. SHIPPING
charge in US for single kit $10. For 11x17 brick sheets mailed in tube $5 priority
mail per order.
#64-100 Baldwin Class B Steeple Cab body $129.95 brass body kit less power,
bells, lights, poles, and other detail parts.
#64-102 Baldwin Class D Steeple Cab body $_TBD Same as before.
#64-104 Baldwin Class E Steeple Cab body $_TBD Same as before. For CSS&SB
and IC
#64-72 Illinois Terminal Class B motor body $_TBD Same as before.
#64-358 Brill 55 Motorcar body $_TBD Same as before.
TBA PRICES depend on number of orders for first run. The D could be as reasonable
as the B with enough orders or as high as $175.00. The Illinois Terminal and
the Brill will be a bit more because of the roofs. MRRW's target for all of
these is "under $150" More information on the steeplecabs can be found
at
http://www.mrrwarehouse.com/MRW-Made/steeple.htm
. Ignore the fact that this documentation is for the HO version. The instructions
are the same.
MRRW is only etching as many steeplecabs as they have orders for. But don't
worry. If you miss the deadline for the first order, he only needs orders for
3 or 4 before he does another run. Plus he can mix and match S and O to get
the 3 or 4. But not getting in on the first order raises the price as the pattern
work, much more than the brass,
determines the price.

Pope Imagineering
Currently has in production a PCC car and a CSS&SB interurban, a Niles car. My PCC required regauging of the wheels. Apparently the wheel to wheel distance was based upon the S gauge standards provided by the NMRA rather than the NASG, meaning that the wheel base is too close. Mine came with an overhead pickup pole and runs on two rail track with positive and negative leads.
Also installing Trainmaster hand held controls, AC power, in S gauge engines. Will be doing a tender that allows you to pull the e-unit out of the AF train and install a sound card and receiver; turn on off headlights, smoke, etc...while the power is on full to your track....just like DCC but it's AC. Great for AF. Will also be making European style trolley poles in S gauge.
The above pictured Pope car measures approximately 9 inches in length [9/ (12x46.5) = 0.0161 = 1/62] which is about 1/62 scale. The wheelsets look to regauged HO Athearn trucks but gauged by NMRA S scale standards (.875') as opposed to the NASG standards (.883").
