Wisconsin Wigwags
|
Several wigwags, all Western Railroad Supply "Harpes
Wigwags", were recently discovered by Keith Huebner. Most of these appear
to be located on former Milwaukee Road "Southwestern" lines. A couple are
ex-Chicago & Northwestern. All are now part of Wisconsin & Southern.
Keith feels that these wigwags will be safe for a while. The state has
been focusing their efforts on upgrading crossings on busier mainlines
and intersections.

Keith writes the following:
"7/22/00 Near Black Earth, Wi. On Wisconsin and Southern-
former Milwaukee Line west out of Madison."
Update - 2/02...
Brent Georgi sends us an updated photo taken on 2/8/02.
Notice the banner has been repainted and the weeds cut
down.
Brent also points out that the street sign on the signal
reads
"Kahle", while the actual road sign nearby reads
"Kahl"...
It is located right off HWY 14 at MP 157.52 (W&S
RR).
Dane
Double set of WRRS "Harpes" wigwags.
Keith gives this information:
"7/16/00 At Dane, Wi. on Wisconsin & Southern
RR (formerly C&NW).
Dane is north of the Capitol (Madison). This used
to be a double track main
for C&NW between Chicago-Madison-Minneapolis.
I think there is
one more crossing up this line with wigwags.
I'll have to check."
