Santa Cruz
Two of the three wigwags in Santa Cruz are located along Chestnut St. on the former Southern Pacific (now part of Santa Cruz, Big Trees & Pacific-reporting marks: SCBG ) line that runs to Felton. The tracks run down the middle of Chestnut St. for several blocks. This line once ran all the way to San Jose, via Los Gatos and Vasona Jct. It was severed sometime during the early 1940's due to a storm that knocked out part of the line through the mountains. It was never repaired, and now ends just past Felton  (on the Santa Cruz side). The only way back to San Jose now is through Watsonville Jct.

Close up of banner. Notice that this doesn't have the banner pipe spliced with a rubber hose. Quite rare to find this!

One block to the east we find this one at Walnut Street.
It's not in such great shape as the signal on Lincoln St.
It too has the original base, but the banner pipe has been spliced.

Close up of Walnut Street wigwag shows that it is due for some work! Banner in very rough shape, and whoever painted the black stripe didn't have a very steady hand!

Base of Walnut St. signal. The paint has huge cracks in it...there must be 50 layers of paint on this wigwag!
