the Doniphan Branch Railway
Doniphan, Missouri.
"A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet"
The Missouri Pacific Railroad Workers Forum
Please NOTE; If you are doing Geneology research and are "looking" for information on a relative that worked on the MP or any of it's subsidiaries, please read this page. It may answer most of your questions. You'll be on the MPHS site so when you are finished, follow the link there on to the forum.I've gotten the posts on former employees moved to the MPHS web site for better access and preservation.
I recently added some photos. Elvin Klepzig 6-6-2005The information I'm seeking are the details of everyday working on the Missouri Pacific and subsidiaries and the Doniphan Branch in particular. When were you employed, what postions did you hold, what were the hours like, the equipment you used, where were you stationed out of, who did you work with, any particular problems or events that come to mind, what did you haul or ship, from what industry, where did it go and on and on. Talk to me like I've never seen a railroad and you have to explain your part of it to me. All these and more will help folks understand and remember the men and women that ran this railroad. If you are writing on behave of an ancestor then just do the best you can, it'll be fine. Don't forget to read the other posts, you'll enjoy it. Thanks, Elvin Klepzig.
Submitting Material for this Site.
I love old photographs and the memories that accompany them. That is why I'm always so pleased when a stranger wants to share their material with me and the folks that look at this site. I've been blessed with many such friends without whom this site and my research would be worse off.
For anyone thinking of submitting material I'd like to tell up front what I try to do with their material. As a rule, all photos and paperwork lent to me are returned. While I love to see the material and learn what it contains, I don't try to obtain any material unless the owner specifically asks me to accept it. I'm then most grateful for the donation. I do make copies or computer scans for my records. They usually work well for my needs.
I also give submitters the option of donating material through me to any of the three historical organizations that are in the area. Doniphan has a museum and historical society. Naylor has a nice museum downtown that is run by volunteers and then Neelyville has a nice museum run by volunteers there. Any of these organizations would gladly accept submissions and I'm happy to pass them on if so requested.
Feel free to send me a note if you have anything to submit and I'll gladly provide you with my mailing address.
Caboose Owners
As you can tell, I track old cabooses. While the MoPac is my favorite, I also look for other cabooses that are still around. If you own one and are looking for information about it, chances are I can help. There is an entire network of folks just like me that exchange information on cabooses. Write me about your caboose and I'll find out what I can about it and let you know. I love to hear about ones we don't know of and love to help their owners take care of them so drop me a note. Looking forward to hearing about yours.
A little about Elvin.
I'm a past member of the Missouri Pacific Historical Society, having been a member for over 20 years ending that association in 2005. I served as Vice President, a Board of Directors member several times, as Chairman of the Restorations Information Committee, Treasurer and as Assistant Webmaster and then Webmaster of the MPHS web site.
I'm on YaHoo groups MOPAC and the RRcaboose list.
I model in HO scale, MP of course, and am working on a replication of the Doniphan Branch which ran from Neeylville, Missouri to Doniphan.
I hope to publish the story of this line in some form at some date. In saving the history of this branch, I can tell the story of the life and times of the county in which I've spent most of my life. I encourage anyone that has an interest in any part of the MP system to go out and record that information while folks are alive that can tell you about it.
Just remember that time marches on. Thanks for visiting and you all come back, hear?
