Service Snapshots

So, having looked at where the depots are and what they do, where the crews report and where the trains are controlled from, what service should all this combine to offer?

All the facts and figures are taken from our current Working Time Table - WTT132 - which came into effect on the 8 January 2005 and remains valid at the time I compile this.

I'll start with probably the simplest of details - how many trains should there be in service at given times of the day on given days of the week.

So far so good - that's the number of trains that make up the service at certain times of the day, but to achieve that, they've got to be brought into service. I've previously outlined the functions of the depots and mentioned the other stabling points - the following is from where the trains are provided each day.

Notes to table

  1. C Denotes 'C' stock Trains - all other trains composed of 6 cars 'D' stock
  2. * Does not include spare trains
  3. @ Plus 2 'C' stock (12 cars) for Hammersmith & City Line service.

So, that summarises the number of trains in service and who provides what to achieve that.

I include too the Numbering of Trains as currently provided by WTT130. This is a question that often seems to be raised, so I'm glad to be able to give the definitive picture as it stands at the present time

Numbering of Trains

1 - 24

Upminster - Richmond

26 - 51

Upminster - Wimbledon (SuX)

26 - 46

Barking - Wimbledon (SuO)

53 - 65

Tower Hill - Ealing Broadway

70 - 77

Edgware Road - Wimbledon

101 - 107

Upminster Depot Interpeak Stablers

110

Richmond overnight stabler

111 and 112

Upminster Depot spare trains (Saturdays only)

121 - 127

Ealing Common Depot Interpeak Stablers

141 and 142

Ealing Common Depot spare trains (Saturdays only)

151 and 152

High Street Kensington - Kensington (Olympia)

161 and 162

Hammersmith Depot midday stablers

Trains numbered 70 - 77, 161 and 162 are composed of 6 Cars of C stock. The composition of all other trains is 6 cars D stock.

There is also an allocation of empty stock transfer paths as follows.

Empty Stock Transfer Paths

750

Ealing Common depot to Upminster Depot

751

Upminster Depot to Ealing Common Depot

752

Upminster Depot to Barking Sidings and return (Mondays to Fridays)

753

Ealing Common Depot to Ruislip Siding and return (Mondays to Fridays)

754

Ealing Common Depot to Neasden Depot

755

Neasden Depot to Ealing Common Depot

So, that's covered the number of trains in service, where they are provided from and the numbering of the trains.

I think the final relevant statistic is the distances the schedule provides that the service provided will travel each day.

Scheduled Passenger Kilometres

Mondays to Fridays

29,887 km per day

Saturdays

26,832 km

Sundays

22,204 km

I hope that all presents an idea of the service that the line provides, and that those statistics give an indication of how the service comes together to put the appropriate trains on the railway.
