Additional Photos

The following are some additional photographs of railroadiana in and around Evanston. Click on each thumbnail for a larger version.

This is the "L" station on Asbury Avenue. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

The Chicago, St. Paul & Milwaukee station at Calvary Cemetary. The station was closed in 1931 and replaced by the South Boulevard station. It was demolished in 1995. (

Another view of the St. Paul's Calvary station.  (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

This is the site of the former station today (October 2005). Fresh ballast and a lack of vegetation are the only clues that a station stood here for 85 years.

The Chicago Rapid Transit company's South Boulevard station under construction. Off in the distance, the old Calvary station can still be seen. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. M. D. McCarter photo.)

A view to the west along Central Street from the C&NW viaduct ca. 1910. Note the Evanston Railway streetcar tracks running down the middle of the street. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

The same view taken October 28, 2005. The streetcar tracks are long gone, and the building on the southwest corner is now a bank parking lot, but the building on the right lost only its awnings.

The Chicago & Milwaukee Electric's Church Street terminal, ca. 1914. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

The North Shore Line terminal in June, 1929 - the building has a new facade, and a high level platform has been added to handle through trains. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. M. D. McCarter photo.)

An assortment of C&NW timetables. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

Despite the caption, this is actually the Dempster Street station of the Chicago & North Western. The station was closed in 1958 and demolished in 1959. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

Evanston Railway Company car No. 3. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. M. D. McCarter photo.)

The Isabella Street station. Isabella was the only "L" station within the Evanston city limits that was never actually elevated. It was closed in 1973. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. M. D. McCarter photo.)

Car 132 of the North Chicago Street Railway, another Yerkes-controlled road that was merged into the Chicago Union Traction Company, which also ran cars into Evanston. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

NCSRR car No. 22. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)

The Noyes Street elevated station under construction. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. M. D. McCarter photo.)

The Ridge Avenue "L" station. It was almost identical in appearance to the Asbury station 2 blocks to the west. Today the station and platforms are gone, and the bridge has been rebuilt. (Collection J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc.)
