About the Elkhart Model Railroad Club

About Us

The Elkhart Model Railroad Club (EMRRC) is a group of 15 model railroaders that possess a wide range of skills. We meet once a week on Friday night to work on projects and operate the HO & N scale layouts.

The Elkhart and Western is a Midwestern bridge route, providing northern and eastern railroads with access to Midwest and Western markets. This is accomplished by linking the bustling commerce hubs of Toledo, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois via a double tracked mainline that is constantly being infused with traffic from the Elkhart and western branch lines. Based in northern Indiana, the Elkhart & western system uses its industrial based customers to generate shipments to commodity based markets in the east and Midwest. The addition of intermodal facilities gives E&W customers even more choices when it comes to shipping their goods.

Our version of the Elkhart & western was a jointly owned subsidiary of the New York central and Pennsylvania railroads. With the sale and dismantling of Conrail, the railroad was sold to satisfy anti-trust guidelines.

Serving multiple industries, keeping interchange traffic flowing and meeting customer deadlines provide for a busy workforce on the E&W. Notable industries include; Miles Laboratories, Adlake, Van Lear mining, Drewry's Brewery, Ball Band (maker of Red Ball Jets), Owens Corning Tri-County Co-Op, Mid-West Grain and more.

Anyone interested in model railroading is welcome to visit the club during regular club night and tour the layout. We meet on Friday nights at 7:00 PM EST. Other times are available only by appointment. Please e-mail us below to set up an appointment.
