P42DC
1 thru 111 - 25 photos, updated on 06.11.2004
Here are locomotives part of the "intercity" pool of engines,
with the exception of 101 thru 111 regularly used in the Northeast that
are not often seen out west.
|
|
Locomotives 112 thru 120 is primarily assigned to the Coast
Starlight
route, which runs between Los Angeles and Seattle. Since I see and
photograph this train quite often, I've created a gallery solely for
these regularly-assigned Coast Starlight locomotives.

P42DC
121 thru 207 - Coming soon
Locomotives 121 and 122 are replacements for the 807 and 829
that were destroyed in the City of NOL wreck in Illinois. 123 thru 207
is an order of brand new locomotives that were delivered from year 2000
thru 2002.

The P32ACDM
locomotives are based in the New York City area, since they're
configured to operate under diesel power, or draw Alternative Current
from the electrified third rail into the underground tunnels and
stations. They're also known as "Dual Modes", and rarely venture out of
the Northeast territory. |

P40 800 thru 843 -
13 photos, updated on 12.10.2004
The P40s aren't as active as they used to be, and can be seen
on the Auto Train and Sunset Limited. At least half of the group is in
storage with a good portion of them up for sale.

|
The F59PHI locomotives are primarily assigned to trains on
the west coast, ranging from Cascades, to Capitol Corridor, to
Surfliner service, and even showing up on the Coast Starlight and SW
Chief routes.
|
|
Otherwise known as the "Pepsi Cans", they're seen in mainline
service, switchers at terminals, and on the special seasonal trains.
They're becoming rare and may soon be phased out of service, get your
photos while you can!

Freight Trains
|
I'm not really an avid freight chaser, but I do photograph
them when I come across one. A lot of these photos are taken from
passenger trains passing a freight train -- I especially like the
matching marooon grain cars that's earned the nickname "earthworm"
because it resembles one as seen from the distance.

Union Pacific - 47
photos, updated on 11.28.2004
Union Pacific isn't exactly a favorite, but I surprised
myself at how many photos I have taken of UP. I guess it's because I
see them more than I see BNSF, and usually take a photo if I happen to
be there with a camera.

Preserved Steam Locomotives
|
The Orange Empire Railway Museum has a vast collection of
railroad locomotives, many still in operable condition. This gallery is
a small, yet growing set of photos of steam locomotives there. If
you're visiting Southern California, this is the museum to see!
