Notes

04.03.2005: The Empire Builder #27 westbound from Spokane, WA to Portland, OR derailed in Home Valley, WA. The cause of derailment is unknown, and early reports indicated no fatalities.

04.08.2005: Holy cow, the Empire Builder ride really sucked today for everyone, it arrives into Portland over 8 and 1/2 hours late! No, it's not mechanical... No, not freight interference... It was late getting out of Portland, arrived to Pasco REALLY late, and rules are that the engineer must get at least 8 hours of sleep. So, when the westbound arrives to Pasco, they had to wait a loooong time for the engineer to get its rest. Hope the passengers were able to detrain and roam about.

04.11.2005: This is going to be a bad month for the Empire Builder, today's outbound was annulled due to engine problems with locomotive 87.

04.12.2005: The Empire Builder departing Chicago on the 12th derailed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- That train won't be splitting its consist in Spokane, and the Portland-bound cars will remain on the train for Seattle... Portland passengers will be bussed Spokane-Portland and vice versa. In order to replace components in the bad-ordered 87 from yesterday, the mechanical crew robbed parts off the wrecked 163 from last week's Columbia Gorge derailment (which is still at the site). Displaced passengers were bussed between PDX and SPK.

04.26.2005: The 114 and 115 both had locomotive problems since starting out in Seattle, 114 was a fuel issue, and 115 had a few electric problems. The 162 was removed from the Empire Builder to go out on the Starlight, the F59 on train #508 took the Empire Builder out, and the F59 on train #507 took the #508 to Seattle. Train #507 was left without a locomotive in PDX, resulting in bustitution to Eugene and back on tomorrow's train #504. Further south, the Starlight ended up having a UP locomotive added to the point.
