The Ferrymead Railway currently operates
the first Sunday of the month, and on many public holidays. Generally we operate a steam locomotive,
a vintage diesel locomotive like DE 1429 or a classic
Vulcan railcar the third Sunday. During
January the Railway operates both Saturday and Sunday and we also operate
over the long Easter Weekend and Labour Day Weekend. Running days are listed
below and subject to cancellation due to bad weather.
Open
House and Special Running
Once a year the Ferrymead Railway
holds and Open House. The workshop and all sheds will be open to the public and Society
members are on hand to show visitors around and answer questions. We also run a steam
train on a rare evening schedule. Best of all, it's FREE!
During the last Open
house we had several
hundred people look through our facility. This year our Open House is
planned for October. Check back at this site for an announcement of the date. If
you are anywhere near Christchurch you are invited to come by. It's a great chance
to get some wonderful photos and we promise an evening you and your family will remember
for a long time.
