Abandoned Right of Ways
================================================== AM Leach Lumber Co near Challenge
According to David Myrick's book, Railroads of Nevada & Eastern California Vol 3, the AM Leach Lumber Co ran a short line
of just a few miles from the mill at Challenge into the woods. The possible alignment is along Peterson Ridge Rd. Upon
visiting I could not find any evidence of a railroad but the grade was nice and flat. Here are a few pics from that trip.
1-3. The "new" alignment crossing Lower Colfax Rd. A piece of rail marks this spot.
4-5. Just up the road towards Grass Valley, the r-o-w crosses a driveway.
6. Immediately behind these trees is a cut from the "old" alignment. This is very near where
the two alignments come together.
7. Here is a topo map of the area. * indicates where photos were taken.

1. Just south of the New Melones Resevoir the r-o-w for the Angels Camp Branch comes into view on the hill above
Highway 49.
2-6. The r-o-w crosses the highway twice in quick succesion. First crossing the highway, then entering a cut. It emerges
on a small fill to cross again. This all happens at Jackass Hill Rd.
