Spitfire - Wanaka Fighter Museum

While we were visiting the museum in Wanaka they took the Mk VI Spitfire for a test flight. This aircraft runs the more powerfull Gremlin engine as apposed to the Merlins run by earlier examples. Sadly this aircraft was involved in an accident seriously injuring the pilot a year or two after this photo was taken. The Gremlin engines rotate in the opposite direction to the merlins, it is assumed that the pilot componsated for the engine torque in the wrong direction during take off as he also fly's an early model spitfire with a Merlin Engine.
