Unit is from BNSF's second order for genset units, this one for seven units numbered BNSF 1235-1242. From discussions and other evidence, including a gap in the builder's numbers at 1242. These units are also assigned to various points in Texas. |

1240 first appeared as demonstrator NREX 2011, built to BNSF specs. NREX 2011 was first sighted working on the Indiana Rail Road, then went on to demonstrate on Canadian National. Demonstrated at Marathon refinery in Robinson, IL before going to INRD. From various discussions. |

Per Ken Lanovich, the 2011 was repainted and re-released as BNSF 1240 as part of its order. From discussion on the Loconotes Yahoo group in Nov. 2007. |
