In the Spring 2008 PHL newsletter, Pacific Harbor Line president Andrew Fox mentioned that a second six axle genset was expected from NRE. That locomotive, PHL 81, was first seen moving across Arizona and southern California in late August, 2008. |

The 3GS21C has six axles and 3 gensets, 2,100 hp total. Dynamic brakes are an option, but the PHL 81 does not have them. The large housing at the back of the hood is where they would go if they were present. From various sources. |
