NREX 2007 National Railway Equip. CNW 4328 Mar. 1951 Nov. 2006 5089-1 To GCRS as OPT 2222 1, A, B

General Notes:
1. 2007 differs from the first 2GS14B, UPY 2005, in that it has a short and long hood configuration more like the 3GS21B's. All other 2GS14B’s built since have followed the same pattern.

Notes:
A. Unit first seen in transit on CSX, eventually ending up in Jacksonville, FL. From photographic evidence. Unit was announced by NRE in a press release (http://www.nationalrailway.com/news_release.pdf) around the same time.
B. NREX 2007's demonstration tour has included stops at CSX, Jacksonville, FL (March 2007); CP, Calgary, AB (May-June 2007); Tacoma Rail, Tacoma, WA (Aug. 2007); Alaska Railroad, Anchorage, AK (Sept. 2007); Pacific Grain Elevators, Vancouver, BC (Oct., 2007); California Northern (Dec. 2007); Modesto & Empire Traction, Modesto, CA (Feb. 2008); Central California Traction, Stockton, CA (March 2008); Stockton Terminal & Eastern, Stockton, CA (March 2008); Richmond Pacific, Richmond, CA (April 2008); San Joaquin Valley Railroad, Fresno, CA (May, 2008); Southern Railway of BC, New Westminster, BC (August-Sept. 2008); Trans-Canada Switching, Roberts Bank, BC (Sept. 2008); ADM, Decatur, IL (Jan. 2009). NREX 2007 CNW 4328 EMD GP7r Mar. 1951 14292 5089-1 CNW 1525 CNW 4328 A

Notes:
A. Serial number verified from builders plate by Ken Larson. Frame number from Mark Gillings. CNW 4328's history was compiled by checking the Unofficial EMD Homepage (http://www.trainweb.org/emdloco/) and Don Strack's CNW Diesl Roster (http://utahrails.net/cnw/cnw08.php#4327-gp7r). Note that the unit was mentioned by an NRE employee as being ex-UP 9961, EMD GP40, former UP 679, MKT 244, CR 3139, orig. PC 3139, built Sept. 1968, b/n 34316, f/n 7127-35. I believe this is not correct, and have used the frame number data for the unit history.

Model: NRE 3GS21B - 6 units, 2 off roster, 1 unconfirmed

General Notes:
1. NREX 2008 was first spotted in New York in transit in CSX. NREX 2008 completed a nine day demo on the Providence and Worcester railroad in late April or early May 2007. From NRE press release.
2. NREX 2009 mentioned in an STB filing as being leased to the Nashville& Eastern RR. Completed a two-week demonstration on the NERR in late September 2007. From NERR info, and STB documentation.
3. NREX 2011 was first sighted working on the Indiana Railroad, then went on to demonstrate on Canadian National. From various discussions. At the time, it was suggested that it was only doing demo work on a temporary basis, and would eventually be delivered to BNSF. That was the case.
4. NREX 2013 demonstrated on the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern in Gary, IN in late Jan. 2008. It was first noted there on the EJ&E Yahoo group (http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/eje). As a demonstrator, it was painted in primer yellow with NREX 2013 stenciled on the side of the cab in black, suggesting it might be a temporary demonstration, as was done with NREX 2011, which demonstrated in primer on CN before becoming BNSF 1240. Interestingly, EJ&E is owned by CN.
5. NREX 2014 was built in Paducah using the older hood configuration. Possibly to clear the parts inventory? First seen at Paducah in June 2009.
6. A genset numbered NREX 2015 was spotted in the shop in Paducah in late June and July by Mark R. Nothing further is known about this unit other than it being similar to the older units in configuration. The unit hasn’t been seen since the USAX 6506 was released from the paint shot, giving rise to the suspicion that they are one and the same. But this is in no way confirmed.

Notes:
A. NREX 2008 is on a lease-buy agreement with MBTA in Boston (Readville, MA). From NRE press release (http://www.nationalrailway.com/MBCR Release.pdf), Trains Magazine article, and other reports. Apparently returned to NRE after the MBTA’s two unit order was received in 2009. Unit spotted headed to NRE Capreol (unconfirmed) in mid-summer. The unit then moved south to NRE Dixmoor, where it was still in-facility in Sept. 2009.
B. NREX 2008’s build info confirmed by David Santos via the LocoNotes Yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LocoNotes). Build location confirmed by Joe Ferguson.
C. 2009's build data confirmed by Joe Ferguson with my thanks.
D. NREX 2009 demonstration stops have included: Nashville & Eastern RR, Old Hickory, TN (Oct. 2007); Canadian Pacific, Calgary, AB (Nov. 2007); NovaChem, Joffre, AB (Dec. 2007); Kansas City Southern, Kansas City, MO and Shreveport, LA (Jan.-March 2008); Trinity Rail Express, Irving, TX (April 2008); Formosa Plastics, Formosa, TX (May 2008 on lease?). From various discussions and other sources.
E. Per Ken Lanovich, the 2011 was repainted and re-released as BNSF 1240 as part of its order. From discussion on the Loconotes Yahoo group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LocoNotes) in Nov. 2007.
F. 2011 - Build data confirmed by Travis Collins with my thanks.
G. NREX 2013 also demonstrated on the Indiana Harbor Belt in early Feb. 2008, and was supposed to demonstrate on the Belt Railway of Chicago in Feb. 2008. From various discussions. Per Ken Lanovich, The 2013's demo on BRC was cancelled, and the unit was returned to Dixmoor for repainting and recommissioning as BNSF 1286.
H. NREX 2014’s demonstrations: Paducah & Louisville, Louisville, KY (July 2009). The unit returned to Paducah after the demonstration and was still in-plant as of November 2009.
I. 2014’s builder's plate data confirmed by Joe Ferguson and passed along by Mark R.
