KCS 1400 is a genset rebuild of GG20B hybrid KCS 1868. It was spotted in early Jan. 2009 moving to the US on CP train 235-08. Connection to previous unit number was provided by Railpower. Both units (1400 and 1401) are reported to be headed to Port Arthur, TX.

According to the Kansas City Southern Historical Society, KCS 1868 is deployed at Port Arthur, TX. Many thanks to the KCS Historical Society.

As hybrids, the 1400 and 1401 were funded by the Texas Emissions Reducion Plan (TERP). From a KCS Press Release.

Build unit and history from the KCS Historical Society rosters used with much appreciation.

Reported in the September, 2006 issue of Canadian Railway Observations that the 1868 is at CAD Rail in Lachine, Quebec. Reason unknown. Update: This report is erroneous. The 1868 has been stored by the yard office at Port Arthur, TX for quite some time. From an on-site spotting.

1868 spotted in late Jan. 2008 on a CN train en route to CAD for rebuild. From a sighting by Michael Dobinson. See the photo below. Still at CAD in early 2008. Rumored to be up for conversion from hybrid to genset. KCS chairman Haverty said that KCS will be getting two gensets in 2008.
