UP's first group of RP20BD locomoitves was built on the frames of retired B30-7 and B30-7A units, and are classed by UP as RP20GE. From photographic evidence.

UP's order for 80 RP20BD models and 18 RP20BH locomotives is funded by TERP. The units are to be depoloyed in San Antonio (9 units), Houston (43 units) and Fort Worth (46 units). Previous unit numbers and histories supplied by Railpower, with histories from Don Strack's Modern Era UP Roster. SP 7862 was to be renumbered UP 7862, but was retired in May 2006 before being renumbered.
