A single prototype RP20CD locomotive with the number RPRX 5600 is mentioned in the Trains Magazine special Locomotive edition for 2007. No further information regarding donor frames, etc. has been mentioned. The magazine said the expected completion timeframe was late 2007. No other news has been heard about this unit recently. |

UP's second RP20CD order will be UPY 894 and 895. Donor for the 894 is supposed to be UP 3527 (EMD SD40-2), though the units may have been switched during rebuild, so this will need to be confirmed. The 894 was delivered in March 2009, and spent its break-in period in Fort Worth, TX before being shipped to Roseville in May. | |

The first RP20CD completed was UPY 896, the first of four units mentioned in a Railpower press release from Sept. 12, 2007. Railpower says the donor unit is UP 3728, an EMD SD40-2. Other sources show the donor as UPB 4298, also an SD40-2. It appears the latter is correct. The unit was delivered to UP in March 2008, and moved to Roseville after a break-in period at Proviso. It also made one round-trip to Janesville, WI. | |

Donor frame for this unit is listed by Railpower as EMD SD40-2 UP 7891, but other sources have it as UPB 4265. I think the former is correct, but I am still awaiting confirmation on those two. Moved to Proviso with UPY 898 in late April 2008. Build date is likely incorrect, as the builder's plate for this unit has the same data as the one for UPY 896. Railpower is correcting. | |
