Welcome to the webpage of the Genesee G Gauge Railway Society!
The GGGRS is a "Large Scale" model Railroad club based in Rochester, NY.

The club was formed in 1991 and has over 50 members. Most members are in the Monroe County area, but we also have members who live in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and other far-flung areas.

"Large Scale" model railroading means model trains that are quite a bit larger than the well-known HO or even O scales. Most Large Scale trains, including most "garden railroads" run on typical "G-Gauge" track, which has a gauge (distance between the rails) of 45mm. There are several different scales of models that can operate on this 45mm track however, including 1/20.3 scale, which represents  narrow-gauge (3 foot gauge prototype) on 45 mm track. or 1/29 and 1/32 scale, which represents US Standard Gauge on the same 45mm track, and other scales.

Our members model everything from 1870's Narrow Gauge steam, right up to the most modern Diesels! There are many different scales that can be run on "G gauge" track, it all depends on what prototype you want to model. The members of the GGGRS are involved in many different aspects of modeling, including "fine scale" model building, which involves scratch building highly detailed models, to "garden railways" which is outdoor trains in the garden..there are all kinds of options, even Live Steam its much more than just a "railroad in the basement" (although that is done is large scale too!)

The club sets up Large Scale (G-gauge) model railroad displays, with running trains,
at various events and model train shows throughout the year. We also have a monthy meeting, at club member's homes, please see the calendar for specifics.  Visitors are always welcome!
