Chat Rooms and Forums
On June 27, 2000 a terrible calamity occurred in Large Scale
CyberSpace. Large Scale On Line became Large Scale Off Line. Gone,
Bye-Bye, History. The immediate survey of the devastated cyber
landscape was grim at first, but then miraculously, new life appeared
amid the rubble and wreckage. New forums and chats popped up seemingly
from nowhere.
After just two days, there were more places to exchange information
and chat then ever before. Only time will tell which of these sites
will attract attention and survive, but in my book, the more the
merrier. Competition is good.
What follows is a list of the sites that I've found so far with a
short description of what's there and what may come in the future.
Public Forums
TrainWeb has a new forum is a UBB format and has a large scale
section, curiously separated from the rest of the model railroad
forums. The new forum is at TrainWeb RailForum.
TrainWeb has a second set of forums using a different format.
Fine Scale Railroader Magazine has created Fine Scale On Line. This is
another indented list that came to line on June 29.
Large Scale Central
popped up from nowhere. This is another UBB like site created by Bob
McCown. It is also subdivided into topics.
myLargeScale.com is a
new site that is intended to grow to be something like LSOL was. For a
few days, this board was hosted on the Utah GRS site.
TrainBoard.com is
a UBB format general railroading forum, but there are model railroad
boards for most scales.
Large Trains On Line is
yet another forum. This one appears to use a custom forum format.
The
AristoCraft Forum has been around for awhile. It uses the UBB
format. This forum is hosted on the AristoCraft web site and is
reasonably restricted to anything AristoCraft related. Go here to
communicate directly with AristoCraft.
The Bachmann
Forum is an indented list type format. The forum is hosted by
Bachmann Trains on their web site and is reasonably restricted to
anything Bachmann related. Go here to communicate with the Bachmann
himself.
Public Chat Rooms
Large
Scale Central has established a chat room with some of the old LSOL
look and feel. This is the most active of the chat rooms.
myLargeScale has
established a chat room based on some chat software that I've not seen
before.
TrainWeb has a real time chat room also. This one is Java powered
and I haven't got it working on my Mac yet. There are actually several
chat rooms there, each with a different railroad related subject.
Large Trains On Line has
another LSOL style chat room. This one has a spelling checker.
