  • September 2013-----------------------------
    --- September 21: On Saturday September 21, 2013, the Kennesaw Historical Society and the Southern Museum are sponsoring a lecture entitled "The Battle of Chickamauga," with author Robert C. Jones. Mr. Jones is the author of the book "The Battle of Chickamauga: A Brief History," and will do a book signing immediately following the lecture.
    Saturday September 21, 2013, TCA Meet At the Sandy Plains Baptist Church. 9AM - 1PM. See TCA website for info.
    --- September 22: On Saturday September 22, 2013, TVRRM Steam Train Special, south to the Chicamauga Battlefield. Also included is the 150th reenactment of the battle of Chicamauga. Contact the TVRRM for info. Tickets are (about) $45.
    --- September 28: Smithsonian Museums have their annual 'free' day on September 28th !!! But you need a pre-printed ticket. Click here to Visit this web site for museum details and ticket info.
    --- September 28: Trainmaster Models in Buford will have a swap meet at their store. Call them for details, like how to buy a table, times, etc...

  • October 2013-----------------------------
    --- October 11-13: The NRHS Atlanta Chapter will host an excursion to New Orleans on the "Amtrak Crescent". This is the week of the Louisiana Seafood Festival. Rails-To-Trails guides should be with the group on this journey. Come and join the NRHA on this trip! See the web site www.srmduluth.org for details.
    Also, the SE Railway Museum has a "Groupon" special for a family membership. Contact the SE Railway Museum for more info.

  • January 2014-----------------------------
    --- January 25th: "TRAINS, TRAINS, TRAINS !" The 4thannual gathering of all things trains at the Southern Museum (a/k/a SMoCW&LH) will be held on this Saturday. Regular admission applies. Neat stuff to see. Modell trains, docents to assist you, activities for kids. Click here for details.

  • July 2014-----------------------------
    --- July 13-20: The NMRA 2014 NMRA National Convention will be held in Cleveland, Ohio. See the web site www.nmra.org for details.

  • August 2015-----------------------------
    --- August 23-30: The NMRA 2015 NMRA National Convention will be held in Portland, Oregon. See the web site www.nmra.org for details.

  • Summer 2016-----------------------------
    --- Jul/Aug: The NMRA 2016 NMRA National Convention will be held in Orlando, Florida. See the web site www.nmra.org for details.

  • Weekends: The NRHS and Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, Georgia is open and offers caboose rides. It is home to the NRHS (National Railway Historical Society) Atlanta Chapter. (They just acquired a new-to-them 1947 fire truck & a Checker Cab !) www.srmduluth.org

  • 2nd Tuesdays: National Model Railroad Association: Monthly meeting of the Piedmont Division, at the Elks Lodge, 1775 Montreal Road in Tucker, Georgia (off LaVista Road, near I-285). www.piedmont-div.org "The Piedmont Division promotes model railroading to its members and the public by providing information, fellowship and organized activities that are educational, entertaining and engaging. The division operates within and supports the goals of the NMRA www.nmra.org and the Southeastern Region. www.ser-nmra.org

  • November is National Model railroading month. About 50 Piedmont Division NMRA members in north Georgia with layouts will be hosting open houses at various times every Saturday and Sunday in November. Please visit the "Piedmont Pilgrimage" at www.PiedmontPilgrimage.com

  • The Southern Museum (full name: The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History) located in Kennesaw, Georgia has rolled out it's "General-II" for use in youth programs. Other kids programs are coming. The Education Center is now open. It also hosts Kennesaw Historical Society talks, and is a Smithsonian Affiliate museum hosting S.I.T.E.S. traveling exhibits.   • The North Atlanta Trade Center or NATS (formerly a Richway Store) in Norcross, Georgia is just east of I-85. It is the site of many railroad-themed shows throughout the year. Exit 101 (Indian Trail) about 3 miles north of the I-285/I-85 "Spaghetti Junction" intersection. Click www.northatlantatradecenter.com for directions and event dates and times.

  • The Marietta Museum of History is located off the square in Marietta, Georgia within a dozen yards of the A&W (CSX) railroad tracks. It is in the building where James Andrews stayed and plotted to steal the locomotive "General" during the Civil War.   • The North Georgia Live Steamers or NGLS, a 1&1/2" live steam club is building a track at the Conyers Horse Park. See their web site for more information: Click North Georgia Live Steamers
