Oregon & Northwestern Railroad Seneca Shops |
The Edward Hines Lumber Company built a large shop building in Seneca that was used to maintain the railroad and logging equipment used in the company's operations. The shops were closed down about the time that the logging railroad lines closed. The vacant buildings were still standing as late as 1976, but they came down a short time later. Today a giant concrete pad marks the spot. |

An aerial view of the Seneca shop building. The structure with the tall smokestack was the powerhouse, and the white square just in front of that building and off to the right was the community swimming pool, which was heated by the powerhouse. The track curving off to the right near the top of the picture was the start of the logging railroad mainline that ran off to the east of town. The planing mill is just out of view to the top of the picture. Photograph is from the Harney County Historical Society collection and is courtesy of Martin Morisette. |
