...a handsome through-type, three-span, lattice
girder bridge, carried 25ft. above river level on two massive
masonry piers in the river and masonry abutments at either end. The
center span was 70ft. long, the girders being 6ft. deep, whilst the
end spans were 22 ft., and 34 ft. long respectively, by 5 ft. deep,
the width between the girders being 12ft. The bridge was built
slightly on the skew, the girders on one side being displaced by
about 7ft. 6 in. in relation to the girders on the other side. The
length between abutments was about 133 ft., and the bridge was
built by Messrs. P. & J. MacLellan,
Clutha Ironworks,
Glasgow.
As 1887 was the year of Queen Victoria's Golden
Jubilee, Mr. Traill named the bridge "the Victoria Jubilee
Bridge"
