Model Railway Day - 9th November @ UFTM

The Friends of Cultra (Ulster Folk and Transport Museum) have organised a Model Railway Day at the museum on 9th of November from 10am to 5pm. There will be railway layouts galore in a variety of scales and gauges in the Irish Railway Collection hall.

CDRRS to merge with CDRR Ltd?

At its Annual General Meeting on the 1st of June 2002, the CDRRS will decide the extent to which it will merge with County Donegal Railway Restoration Ltd., which has been set up to receive the Social Economy grant money (for the reconstruction of the line from the Donegal Station to Gorrell's crossing).

Perrett Steam Car

An article on the Perrett Steam Car is now online. It has been transcribed from a reprint of Tramways - Their Construction and Working, by D. Kinnear Clark, with the kind permission of the publisher. This car made a brief appearance on the Dublin and Lucan Steam Tramway during its early years.

Giant's Causeway and Bushmills Railway

David Laing, the railway's chief executive, welcomed the decision of the NITB investment committee [to approve the final £48,000 of the total of £1.1m pending railway inspection] -- "We still have some work to complete in terms of trackwork and fencing but we are confident now that we can be up and running next spring."

"Plans to open a tourist railway close to the Causeway Coast at Bushmills have taken a step forward, it emerged today. Moyle District Council has offered to provide financial support of £10,000 a year to underwrite any losses on the Giant's Causeway Railway during its first three years of operation."

CDRRS Fundraiser Success

By means of their recent fundraiser (a drawing held on 16th of March),the County Donegal Railway Restoration Society have been able to pay off their Bank Loan and are now operating in the black. Congratulations!

Giant's Causeway Tramway

The author was a conductor on the line, so the text is full of detail. Many of the photographs are from the author's own collection and not previously published. Giants' Causeway Tramway

According to @rinbad:
By early September 2000 The bridge over the river Bush had been replaced, but no public passenger trains on the 914mm-gauge Giant's Causeway & Bushmills Railway are planned until spring 2001.

Trainspotting

The National Photographic Archive held two exhibitions of railway photographs earlier this year. They published some of the photographs on the web: from the @Lawrence Collection, and the @O'Dea Collection.
