1972 Chevy Impala

Convertible LS-5 454

No Substitute for Cubic Inches...

Here you can see photos of my Impala and some of the cars I have owned. I sold my only real muscle car - a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang in 1989. (Still kicking myself)   This 1972 big block Impala convertible is driven to local car shows and parades.

There were 6,456 Impala convertibles made in 1972, and all were V8s.  I have never seen a break down by engine size, but most likely less than 20% got big blocks.  Few survive today.

Here is what the car looked like when I brought her home on November 2nd, 1991 with 34,000 original miles.  Purchased from the original owner.

In 1996, I completely stripped the car to the metal and repainted her.  She also got a new top and carpet.

Below: August of 2003. Time for a change.  New rims - Sort of stock, but not factory for '72.  These rims (used on GM trucks and vans in the 70's and 80's) were actually used on only one year of Impala - 1974. There was a special option called the "Spirit of America" and was available on the Impala, Vega, and Nova.  Red, White and Blue stripes and interior accents were used to promote the upcoming bicentennial. I liked the look of the body-colored rims and decided to try it out...

1969 Caprice LS-1 427

This was my 1969 Caprice with the original LS-1 427 (335 hp).  Purchased in 1991 and restored - sold in 1998.

1969 Mustang Mach 1

I bought the Mach 1 in 1986, and sold it during college in 1989.  It had a 351 Windsor ( M) code and a 4 spd.  The VIN was 9F02M181010.  I would like to find it again one day.

2005 Sonic Blue Mustang GT

I ordered a 2005 GT in February of 2005 and finally got it in June, although it was not the exact car I ordered.  They were so hard to get that my dealer was not sure that mine was going to be built, so I found one at another local dealer and bought it.  This car is truly incredible…

The first pic is with my friend’s Red Fire GT.  The second pic is after I finished the stripes, the third pic is after I added the M U S T A N G letters on the trunk and finally at the car show next to another Sonic Blue GT.  The stripe kit came from www.baltimorestreetmods.com.

A year later I finally got a set of Bullit wheels.
