Section 8: Conclusion

After 6213 was successfully moved to the John Street Roundhouse, Leon's had their grand opening on July 8, 2009 and was attending by many members of the public, and unfortunately several of Toronto's top politicians.

Two weeks later, we convened at the locomotive for a post move inspection and to tend to a few odd jobs. The Journals on the Tender Trucks were sprayed with oil and the improvised Journapaks inspected, while all the rods were greased once more and the patches on the side of the boiler where the builder's plates had been were cleaned of 70 years of scale and given a quick coat of black paint. We had hoped to crawl under the locomotive and inspect the Driver Journals, but due the brickwork between the tracks that was not possible. Hopefully, once the museums 3 (of 32) stalls are finished, we can move the engine inside and work on her in the luxury of an inspection pit.

A few days later, for a cheap laugh, we bolted the number plate from 6214 on the front and took a picture of it. I later got my hands on the photo and doctored the glass numberboards to complete the hoax.

Immediate plans for the locomotive consist of giving it a fresh coat of paint once construction in Roundhouse Park is finished. The locomotive has been due for a paint job for several years and the City has budgeted for it but as plans were being drawn up for the Roundhouse it was decided to hold off until plans for the Roundhouse were settled.

The THRA has expressed the intent to restore 6213 to operational condition, but never said when. This will be an entirely uphill battle as they don't have the money to do it or equipment to pull once its done, and the lack of connection to the mainline only complicates things further. Only time will tell...
