August 1960? CNR 6167 Excursion
Dan Glenney has recounted a trip with CNR 6167 from Fort Erie to Hamilton via Dunnville and Return that he believes took place in August 1960. Dan tells me that:
“My Father and I were waiting to board the excursion train with CNR 6167 as the locomotive. We had just heard about the trip, and did not have time to obtain tickets. In spite of this, we boarded the train. When the conductor asked for our tickets a few miles down the track, Dad looked blank. The conductor took pity on us, and said, "I guess I can't disappoint the kid." Dad paid cash on the spot for our seats. The train went on to Dunnville and Hamilton that day. This was the first of several good times with 6167.”
June 1962 CNR 6167 Excursion
I am told that in June of 1962, CNR 6167 pulled an excursion from Toronto to Hamilton and Return. The trip was apparently sponsored by CN and was called the "Students Steam Choo Choo" and was aimed and marketed to
elementary school children. One of the highlights include a run-past at Oakville Station.
Douglas V. Gonder made reference to this trip during his speech at 6167's dedication ceremony on October 12, 1967 at Guelph.
