Sunday May 21, 1961 CNR 6167 Excursion

On Sunday May 21, 1961, CNR 6167 pulled an excursion sponsored by the Buffalo and Rochester Chapters of the National Railway Historical Society from Fort Erie to Stratford and Return. Upon arrival at Stratford, arrangements were made for the excursionists to visit the Stratford Shakespearean Festival Theater and Gardens.

Thanks to Doug Wells for supplying me with a flyer and ticket for this trip. I also have in my archives, a newspaper article mentioning the locomotive passing through the City of Guelph, though I have no idea which newspaper the article appeared in..

Steam Loco Brings Back Memories

Loco 6167, with nostalgic sound of its steam whistle warning of its approach, rolled into Guelph Junction on Sunday. An appreciative crowd of Guelphites were on hand to welcome, not only the iron horse, but members of the Rochester and Buffalo chapters of the National Railway Historical Society of the U.S. Possibly the last operating steam locomotive on the CNR system, the Northern type 4-8-4 made the trip from Fort Erie to Stratford and return. The Guelph Fire Department aided her on the run by topping up her water supply for the steam boilers. (Below)

The stuff in the background is coal, and 6167 takes on more water. Pilot engineer L.G. Lindsay, (the man who helps the engineer in areas he does not know) and Tom Rogers, CNR Guelph watch with Peter Johnson, a member of the N.R.H.S (wearing railway insignias on his jacket) as Lieut. Nelson Hatch of the Guelph Fire Department does a good job of filling her up.

A ticket for the trip submitted by Doug Wells.
