Sunday May 28, 1961 CNR 6167 Excursion On Sunday May 28, 1961, CNR 6167 pulled the first of what ended up being the only 6167 excursion sponsored by Railfans Unlimited, from Toronto to Midland and Return. This trip is notable in that the excursion was intended to take Pilgrims to visit the Martyrs' Shrine near Midland, Ontario. Initially, Railfans Unlimited had intended to run a number of excursions using 6167 in 1961, planned for June 11, July 16, and July 30, however these trips were later cancelled as this first trip operated at quite a loss, and also because the trips interfered with Railfans Unlimited President Ray Kennedy's job at the CPR Lambton Roundhouse. The cancelled trips were advertised in the Running Extra Section of Trains Magazine, and the notices for these trips are included below. Thanks to Rob Burnett for sharing the flyer for the trip; Ray Kennedy for the ticket scans; and Don McQueen for sharing his own notes on the trip.
