Sunday June 4, 1961 CNR 6167 Excursion
On Sunday June 4, 1961 CNR 6167 pulled an excursion,
sponsored by the Upper Canada Railway Society, on a circle tour from Toronto,
through Guelph, Galt, Paris, Brantford, Caledonia, and Hamilton before returning
to Toronto. According to Don McQueen's notes, this trip may have originally been
scheduled for May 14, 1961, but later set back to June 4.
Thanks to Don McQueen
for supplying me with the flyer for this excursion and sharing his own notes,
and Doug Wingfield and Brian Switzer for providing photos of this trip.

The Last Steam Engine!
Yes, Canadian National's 6167 is the last survivor of
that romantic breed, the 'Iron Horse'. She has been saved from the torch so that
YOU can enjoy touring the scenic railways of Southern Ontario, and once again
thrill to the thrust of mighty pistons and the shrill call of the steam whistle.
No. 6167 represents the steam locomotive at its greatest development and most
imposing appearance, and the CN and UCRS now make it possible for us to
photograph and ride behind this thundering monster of the rails once again.

160-mile Circle tour:
Look at the map of our itinerary! 160 miles, all
different, in air-conditioned comfort. This is an entirely new and interesting
excursion route, with 2 1/2 hour stopover in historic Brantford. Here you may
detrain to see the sights of that lovely town and enjoy a meal at one of the
many fine restaurants there.
and plenty of film
too! Photo enthusiasts will have excellent opportunities to record this
historic event. The UCRS Trip Planning Committee is thoroughly
experienced in arranging photo stops and "movie run-pasts" in
the most scenic locations, and under the best lighting conditions. Five
such photo stops are planned and you are sure to get some exciting
pictures.
Special
As an added bonus to mark the occasion, you will receive a special souvenir,
which you will treasure as a memento of the day.
Lunch on the Train -
Once again, the popular UCRS Lunch Service will provide light refreshments, soft drinks,
coffee etc. to sustain the inner man throughout the excitement of the day.
