Sunday October 1, 1961 CNR 6167 Excursion
On Sunday October 1, 1961, CNR 6167 pulled one of two
excursions sponsored by the Upper Canada Railway Society over the September 30 and October
1 weekend. The first excursion took riders on a trip over an electric line,
while the second excursion was a fall foliage trip pulled by 6167 to Lake Simcoe and
Gravenhurst. Thanks to Don McQueen
for supplying me with the flyer for this excursion.

OUR LAST OUTINGS OF THE SEASON |
| Autumn is nearly upon us, and the UCRS joins with the CN and CP to provide the last great weekend of activities for the rail enthusiast and photographer. The varied interest of these two excursions, featuring Diesel, electric and steam locomotive power, as well as an opportunity to view the splendid display of fall colours for which Central Ontario is so justly famous, make for pleasurable outings surpassing even our June and July trips.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 30th
In co-operation with the CPR, the Society has planned a day of interesting activity featuring a visit to one of the few remaining electric railways in Ontario-- the Lake Erie and Northern - Grand River subsidiary of the CP. At
8:50a.m., Eastern Daylight Time, CP Diesel power will whisk our special train to Galt, where two powerful electric locomotives will take over for an action-packed day on the electric lines. A half-hour visit to the shops at Preston will enable us to inspect and photograph the equipment kept there. The ensuing run to Waterford and return to Galt will feature several stops for photos and movie run-pasts.
Picnic lunches are in order, or you may find refreshment in the Lunch Counter Car. We return to Toronto at 6:50 p.m., Daylight Time. In all, a pleasant and exciting day for the traction devotee.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1st
On Sunday, the CN's Northern type steam locomotive, by now familiar to UCRS excursionists, will haul our special to Gravenhurst and return, covering both the Newmarket and Bala Subs and both shores of Lake Simcoe, as well as the Don Valley and other picturesque spots. A two-hour stopover at Gravenhurst will give ample time for the
traveler to have lunch, and in addition, delicious meals will be served in the CN Diner to be included in the train. An open express car will provide up-front sights and sounds of the engine, and 110-volt power in the car
will make it possible to make tape recordings. Plenty of stops for photos of course. Come and see 6167 perform in what may well be our last nostalgic ride behind this famous type of locomotive. |
