Sunday May 20, 1962 CNR 6167 Excursion
On Sunday May 20, 1962, CNR 6167 pulled an excursion sponsored by the Buffalo and Rochester Chapters of the National Railway Historical Society from Fort Erie to Toronto and Return. Upon arrival at Toronto, excursionists had the opportunity to tour the TTC, or take a ferry tour of Toronto Harbour. The newspaper The Guardian reported on May 23, 1962 that the train pulled into Guelph "after a much delayed and very hot trip from Fort Erie", and stopped in Guelph for water. Thanks to Doug Wells for providing me with a flyer and ticket stub for this trip and also to Dan Glenney for his photos and another ticket stub.
STEAM POWERED RAIL RAMBLE AND CIRCLE TOUR
TO TORONTO, ONTARIO
PLAN OF OPERATION: STEAM POWERED Special Train will Leave Fort Erie., Ont., CNR Station and proceed to Hamilton via Welland Jct., and Merriton, and after taking water at Hamilton will proceed to Toronto via Oakville. At Toronto passengers will either a take a 2½ hour trolley tour on chartered cars of the TTC (both Peter Witt and PCC), around Toronto on presently used or recently abandoned lines, or take a Ferry Boat around Toronto Harbor stopping off at Island Park to see the new Park Development, and also enjoy the waterfront and skyline views of Toronto. The return trip from Toronto will be via Georgetown and Guelph to Lynden and Hamilton, returning to Fort Erie. PHOTO RUN PASTS: Several photo run-pasts will be made on this trip, so bring your camera and plenty of film. MEALS: Full sized CNR Diners will be provided for dinner service on the return trip. You MUST indicate on the Reservation Coupon the number of meals desired on the Diner, pay for meals on the train. If you so desire you may bring your own food. A Dining Car will be provided for breakfast on the going trip, as there will be no time for meals in Toronto
NOTES: Bus transportation between Buffalo and Fort Erie leaves from Niagara St., and Porter Ave., at 8:45 A.M. for the CNR Station. Please indicate on Reservation Coupon if you desire this service costing $1.00 per person for the round trip. For those driving there is plenty of parking space at the CNR Sta. on Bridge St. near the International Railway Bridge. ROCHESTER PASSENGERS: Buses provided between Rochester and Fort Erie leaving Trailways Bus Terminal at Midtown Plaza, Broad near Chestnut St., at 7:30 A.M. Running Extra
May 20: Canadian National Northern-type steam locomotive No. 6167 will be used on special train sponsored by Buffalo and Rochester chapters of National Railway Historical Society. Excursion will leave from Fort Erie, Ont., for Toronto via Merriton and Hamilton, with routing one way from Hamilton to Toronto via Guelph and Georgetown, the other way via Oakville. during 3-hour layover in Toronto chartered trolley tour via TTc lines or ferryboat tour to Toronto Harbor Island Park may be taken. Special train leaves Fort Erie 9:30 a.m. [DST], returns approximately 8 p.m. Complete information may be obtained from Trip Secretary, Buffalo Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, 55 Meadow Rd., Buffalo 16, N.Y.
