Saturday June 20, 1964 CNR 6167 Excursion

On Saturday June 20, 1964, CNR 6167 pulled an excursion sponsored by Canadian National and the Upper Canada Railway Society from Toronto to Belleville and Return. Dave Spiegelman was on the trip and tells me that the train traversed the Uxbridge, Coboconk, Midland and Campbelford Subdivisions on the way to Belleville and that upon arrival at Belleville, 6167 and Baggage Car 9166 were removed from the train in order to remain in Belleville for Railway Week. After 6167 was removed from the consist, diesels took over and the train returned to Toronto via the Oshawa Sub. Finally, Dave states that this was the best trip he was ever on.

Don McQueen has also provided a great deal of information about this excursion. The consist included: BE 9166, PB 5113, 5162, 5086, 5101, Café 424, PB 5203, 5083, 119, CN Mountain Observation 15097 and UCRS PV NOVA SCOTIA. The train returned to Toronto as  Passenger Extra 6703 West and was hauled by two diesels, the lead unit being CLC CPA16-5). Don also provided me with a brochure for this trip.

Steam Train Excursion

Toronto Lindsay Belleville

Take a steam engine, an unusual train consist, and a sunny summer's day, add them all together, and you have the makings of a fun-filled day. C.N.'s famous Northern, 6167, will be making one of its last trips as it hauls our train along the scenic branch line that links Lindsay, Peterborough and Belleville. And an interesting train it will be, including in its consist an open baggage car (with 110 volt outlets for tape recorders, open windowed coach, air conditioned coaches with snack bars, and a cafe car serving delicious, inexpensive meals throughout the day. Highlighting the train will be the use of a rare open mountain observation car and the Society's own car "Nova Scotia"!

Lots of carefully chosen run-pasts and photo stops will keep your camera busy from morning until night, so bring plenty of film.
