The Franklin Booster was removed in May 1954. Although the cylinders of the booster engine were supplied by a steam pipe coming off of the left-hand valve chest, an additional steam supply was required for idling the cylinders of the booster before engaging it.
The Thaw Valve for the boiler check valve was disconnected at some point and the current arrangement involves a valve that comes right off the boiler, directly next to the check valve. One disadvantage with this is that to turn it on, you now have to exit the cab and walk along the boiler.
