Restoration Journal - July 10, 2009 Sandblasting In Progress Sand Blasting commenced on June 24. The contractor opted to use a product known as "Greenblast" made by Opta Minerals Inc. of Waterdown, Ontario. Greenblast is recycled glass, has has proven to be be very effective at removing all the scale, rust, and countless layers of old paint on the locomotive, while Soda was used on the running gear. For the time being, only the engine, and not the tender was sandblasted. Work on the tender will commence later. Approximately 20,000 lbs of Greenblast and 1,000 lbs of Soda was required to blast the locomotive, including the boiler, cab, smokebox and running gear, by the time the contractor finished on July 10.
