Restoration Journal - June 7, 2010 Getting 6167 Ready For The Big Move Part VII Photos by Grant Kingsland With the move of CNR 6167 one week away, we had one final work session to make sure everything was in order for the big day. We finally finished cleaning out the smokebox (and it looks pretty darn good), and Western Mechanical also came out and cut all the wood blocks for the driving wheel journals and removed the steps to the cab from both sides of the engine (sure does make a good way of keeping people out the cab.) At the moment, the move is scheduled to take place Tuesday June 15. The Goderich And Exeter will be shut down for several hours midday and that is when the move will happen. The Engine and Tender are scheduled to be unloaded at the new pad the next day (June 16). Helmut Osterman has been asked to be the official photographer for the event.
![]() This is the Journal from Driver R1. The space between the journal and the block is to allow the springs to relax (take the load off them). When the engine is lifted the journal will rest on the block. Also worth mentioning is that holes have been drilled on the bottom of the blocks to clear the studs that pass through the pedestal binders (These studs support straps of steel that rest beneath the break rigging rods and are designed to catch them should any of the rods break.)
The smokebox after a good deal of soot, rust, and washers was vacuumed and scooped out. Looks pretty good.
Cab Ladders removed. This looks like it would help keep people out of the cab.
Some more views of the new pad. |
