Cleveland Works Railway Operation

The CWRO is technically a Class III Short Line Railroad. Its official name is "The Cleveland Works Railway Company". All of the motive power is either former RT, CUVA, LTV/Republic or WC. There were around thirty four locomotives in the fleet, with about one-third of those remote-controlled. During a typical month, the CWRO may handle about 8,000 cars. Scrap and coke are the two biggies, but outbound slabs and coils and inbound slabs (conversion business) are also switched. It connects with the CSX, NS, and the Wheeling and Lake Erie. It also handles inbound tank cars for the Sunoco facility just south of the RT shops on Independence Road. Hot metal from the blast furnaces to the BOF and slabs from the caster to the hot mill represent a large amount of the tonnage moved by the CWRO.
