Long Island Live Steamers Track Plan

For those of you who are interested, the Long Island Live Steamer's has about 4600' of 1.5" scale (7 1/4" gauge) track down on the ground. It is arranged in a double loop, also jokingly called the "race track". We have a reversing wye and 2 small yards. There are also 2 car storage sheds and a 6 stall RoundHouse with turntable. For the preparation of steam engines and loading and unloading visiting engines, we have the "Steaming Bays". This is where all the action is. It is one of the few places left in the world where you can still see the age old ritual an engine crew and engineer go through in order to prepare a steam locomotive for running. It is truly a marvelous sight to behold for both young and old buffs alike. The passenger station is the busiest place on the entire layout. Here, throughout the day (10:30 to 3:00) you see trains coming and going. You know they enjoyed the ride when you see the smiles of the small children as they disembark the train. Remember, this is one of the few remaining places around the country where you can witness the actual operation of real, LIVE steam locomotives!
