With the catwalk removed, the car is laid on its side
in preparation for painting. At this point, the car weighs close
to 100 pounds. It is 5 feet in length and very bulky to move about.
You can see all the detail on this end of the car, from the ladders
to the working brake wheel.
100% Prototypical.
The first coat of primer, Variprime, has now been applied.
The car is being expertly sprayed by my close friend
Fred Bouffard, noted Live Steam expert.
A nice shot of the completed body, notice the detailed
lettering.
All lettering was professionally hand painted directly
on the car by a sign painter.
Here, the brake wheel and end detail can be seen.
At this point, I am working on the interior of the
car.
The interior (floor, walls and ceiling) is entirely
lined with basswood strips 1/2" wide. These will be sanded
smooth once installed and stained.
