NYC 6028 was a steel underframe express refrigerator operated in the REA pool, often on a transcontinental route between New York and California. -A Dean Hale collection.

Until after World War II, the Railway Express Agency fleet was primarily wooden cars on steel underframes such as REX 298. Such cars were a familiar component of 7 and 8 consists. - A Dean Hale collection.

Santa Fe express refrigerator cars like 4073 assigned to Railway Express service, were common on 7 and 8. But any REX pooled express refrigerator car, including those owned by ACL, GN, KCS, NC&STL, PFE, PRR, and SAL, were fair game for any Fast Mail Express consist. REX 6687 was rebuilt from a World War II-era troop sleeper and cars of this type appeared frequently on the Fast Mail Express. A Dean Hale collection
