Texas and Pacific Interchanged Cars

Revised 2/11/01

Mail Storage Box

Mail Storage Box 1721. Dallas, 1961. Dick Kuelbs, T&P Color Pictorial.

Martin Lofton wrote a kitbashing article on modeling a T&P 40-foot express boxcar in the May 1994 MR. This car can be produced based on a Red Caboose RC-8001 undec. You will need to change out the doors. Sunshine Models has custom decals.

These cars were built in 1946 at Marshall, Texas, converted from 1937 boxcars. There were 35 of these cars, 1700-1734.

Originally they were painted Pullman Brown with black ends and Dulux Gold lettering. The original trucks were Timkin roller bearing, but they were soon replaced by A-3 Ride Control trucks. With the advent of the Texas Eagle service in late 1948, cars began to be repainted in the Eagle colors of blue and gray with yellow and silver stripes (black ends, underbody, and trucks). They continued into the late 60s.

BE 1120, Dec, 1961, Fort Worth. Dick Kuelbs, from T&P Color Pictorial.

BE cars 1117-1126 were built by AC&F, St. Charles, lot 9886, in 1925 as standard heavyweights with clerestory roofs. They were rebuilt in the Marshall Shops in 1956 and given turtle-back roofs. They were 70' over end sills, 52' truck centers. Car 1116 was reported through Lubbock in 1956 in the consist of the California Special.

Odd-Ball Decals are a good source of specialty MP and TP decals.
