OS "The Valley", TX – 1/19/04

I departed Austin early to spend my MLK day railfanning "The Valley". Here's what I caught:

8:10 N/B MEYFW (Manifest; East Yard-San Antonio to Ft. Worth)
OS'd switching in the Taylor yard
UP 3039 lead unit

8:19 N/B ALDEL (Autos; Laredo to East St. Louis)
OS'd at Thrall on the UP Austin sub
UP 3887 (SD70M), UP 6097 (SD60M)
-TTGX autoracks, parts boxes, CSX steel coils, -180 axles = 42 cars

I misunderstood a radio communication and waited at Thrall for almost an hour for MEYFW to come out of Taylor. Realizing my error, I continued on towards Hearne.

14:37 LYG63 (Hearne local) – with rearranged power

-Covered hoppers, gons, -Switches cars in the Valley yard for a little while

I heard ZDTMX was headed for Mumford, so I blew off the MLDAR approaching Valley Junction

About this time ZLDYC passes through Hearne (unseen) & MHOFW finally
departs Tatsie

There were a few northbounders headed up the Navasota from Houston,
but I had to start heading back to Austin. From here out the details
get sketchy… CCDSA was near Valley Junction
