About the Flamingo Dinner Train:

The Flamingo Dinner Train is operated as part of the Rail education efforts of the Kentucky-Indiana Rail Advocates. Trains depart from the New Haven, Kentucky Depot and operate from New Haven to Boston to Gethsemene to New Hope, Kentucky.

Equipment and Motive Power used on "The Flamingo"

The Flamingo Excursions operate with booth Steam and Diesel Power. On Selected excursions Louisville and Nashville Pacific Class 4-6-2 # 152 is used. This locomotive built in 1905 by the Rodgers Locomotive Works was regularly assigned to the Pan American until larger Pacific's took its place. Retired from service in 1957 the engine was donated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad to the Kentucky Railway Museum and was the first piece of equipment donated by the Louisville and Nashville. During the 1970s she was painstakingly restored by volunteers and following restoration had a brief mainline excursion schedule on the Louisville and Nashville. She now relaxes in her old age hauling passengers on the former Lebanon Branch

On Diesel Powered trips the trains are powered by Santa Fe CF7 , Monon Bl 2 #32 and other diesels owned by the Kentucky Railway Museum.

Please note on steam trip days diesel power is used between New Haven and New Hope due to the lack of a wye at New Hope.

All cars assigned to the Flamingo are air conditioned and are rest room equipped. Dinner is served in the Dining Car " The Kentucky Colonel "
