The Kingston Railroad Station serves a diverse population of residents, students, and tourists at its location
in South Kingstown Rhode Island. During the school year the University of Rhode Island, Salva Regina,
and the Naval War College population of students and faculty ride the Amtrak trains. In the summer season the tourist destinations of Newport, Block Island, and Narragansett attract travelers through this station.

 

WHEREAS, Senator Chafee, a summer resident of Matunuck, was a key player in this important local project; and
WHEREAS, Senator Chafee, through his diligent staff and the work of the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, was aware of the efforts of the Friends of Kingston Station to save the historic depot which serves the busy Northeast Corridor for Amtrak; and
WHEREAS, Senator Chafee was successful in having the Kingston Station included in the first Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 as a Demonstration /project for Historic Renovation and Development of an Intermodal Center; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby congratulates U.S. Senator John H. Chafee for his success in having the Kingston Station included in the first Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to U.S. Senator John H. Chafee
