Information About Our Club
The Lower Anthracite Model Railroad Club is located on the second floor
of the American Legion Building (above the Public Library) at 210 East
Independence Street, Shamokin, Pennsylvania.
Our Club has built and operates: The Shamokin Lines which is a
3,000 square foot HO scale model railroad.
The area being modeled is Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
We begin at the Pennsylvania Railroad yards in Northumberland, Pa,
through the City of Sunbury, and then follow the 27 mile long
Shamokin Valley Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad, the lines of the
Reading Railroad that paralleled it, (sometimes within a few
yards), and the interchange with the Lehigh Valley Railroad in
Mt. Carmel.
The railroad contains over 1,400 feet of track, 154 turnouts,
"scratch-built" models of engines and rolling stock, and hundreds of
"scratch-built" models of area landmark buildings.
During our "Christmas Season Open House" we average 3500 guests.
In June of 1996, Mr. Jim Hediger, Senior Editor of Model Railroader Magazine,
visited our Club to take pictures and to gather information for an upcoming
issue of Model Railroader Magazine. The article was published in the February 1999 issue of the magazine.
