Welcome to the official website of the Long Island Live Steamers

The Long Island Live Steamers have been called the best kept secret on Long Island. Although we have thousands of visitors each year, most of our advertising is by word of mouth.

LILS is located in Southaven County Park in eastern Long Island, NY. Our goal is to promote the hobby of building steam engines of all kinds. Our members have built and bought all sorts of stationary as well as railroad related steam engines. You might even get to see a miniature steam powered tractor running around on our display table.

We also promote model railroading with two scale operating railroads. Our steam, diesel and electric trains are big enough to ride! Visit the About Us page for more information on our club and its activities. The Trackplan pages detail our two railroads.

Our 2007 operating schedule can be found in the Events section and Directions to the club are just a click away as well. We offer trackside picnic tables so your family can watch the trains while you enjoy your lunch. Southaven Park offers many other activities to round out your day.

Don't forget to visit our Picture Gallery and pages detailing our Club Engines as well as our Members' Engines.

We hope you enjoy your on-line visit and hope to see you at the track soon!

Next Public Run Day

Long Island Live Steamers public run season has begun with a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  Steam, Diesel and Electric trains were bringing our visitors from Southhaven to Jamaica Station.  We welcome you to join us on our next public run.

Workers at the Track!

The track is now complete and the signal system is being upgraded.  Our club members will be running on the ground line and high line for our Steam Up.  Work will continue for our first public run on Sunday, May 20.

The outer loop is nearly complete and work has begun on upgrading the signal system.  Safety rails are also being installed on the High Line.  Projects will continue throughout the year and members are always welcome to join our work crew.  Check your news letter to get details on projects.

The track gang is back!  Track has been removed from the south outer loop and grading nearly complete.  Track panels need to be built and installed.  They are on schedule to have the track ready by May 1.  All members are welcome to join us on Thursdays and Sundays.

Well, the weather finally cought up with the Thursday Gang.  Work at the track has virtually halted this last month as we go through the winter.  But, back in the beginning of last month, work was reported on Jan. 4th.
