Steam-up/Blow-down

Steam-up and Blow-down are special days. As a Northeast US club we are subject to the change of seasons. We work on the track and grounds year-round but most train operation is limited to warmer weather months.

At the beginning of the season, the club hosts a Steam-up Day. It provides the membership with a day to get reacquainted and bring their equipment out for an early-season run. Likewise, in the fall,  we celebrate the close of another season with a Blow-down Day.

These days are reserved for members and their guests. While no rides are provided for the public, these days provide a relaxing time for those interested in the hobby and possible membership to visit, watch the trains and chat with our members.

Steam-up in 2008 will take place on May 4.

Blow-down will take place on November 2

This year, we are adding 4 Club & Friends Steaming Days.  Like our Steam-up and Blow-down, no rides are provided for the public, these days provide a relaxing time for those interested in the hobby and possible membership to visit, watch the trains and chat with our members.  These days are:

Summer is in Full Swing!

Rumor has it that when Thomas Jefferson was rushing to complete the Declaration of Independence in time for the Fourth of July weekend he had thoughts of unwinding with a nice train ride. Ok, so I'm the one who started the rumor and there were no trains to ride even if he wanted to. Well, there's no reason for you to miss out on the fun this July. Our Run Days in July are on the 9th and 30th. Train rides will be provided from 10:30AM to 3PM. In addition, our Mid-summer Meet is July 20-23. [details]

Anniversary Time

June is Busting Out All Over

The summer season is upon us and LILS is off to a good start. So far, the rain has conveniently fallen on the "other" weekends and our guests have enjoyed some fine weather for riding the trains. [more]

Happy New Year!

While the calendar year starts on January 1, our year with our riders starts in the spring. Our first Run Day on May 21 was well attended and with it we begin the celebration of our 40th year in Southaven Park.

Frequent visitors will notice some changes at the track this year. [more]
