Union Pacific AC4400CW-CTE number 5773 leads a southbound freight out of San Luis Obispo. The southbound Pacific Surfliner passed though here not more than 10 minuets before this train came.

A pair of GP38-2’s sit at the south end of the Newhall Yard. A brief break in the could casts some golden rays on them against this almost eerie backdrop of dark clouds.

A Union Pacific Freight awaits clearance to leave the Newhall Yard and head out to Roseville. Motive power today consists of two SD45T-2’s and a SD40-2.

The helpers in SLO CA. Its rare to see an NS unit out here, and in the helpers is even more interesting. The UP SD60M is not very common for the helpers either. Its usually older units like SD40s that comprise the helper set.

A Union Pacific SD70M is at the head of the IOALB. The train stopped in San Luis Obispo the previous night and will be heading town to Long Beach with its load of empty container cars from Oakland.

A brief bit of sunlight through the clouds on a rather stormy day in SLO makes for nice lighting on the local helpers. Here SD40-2 3295 and SD60M 2292 head north from the depot towards Cuesta grade.

A Union Pacific SD70M leads a southbound freight through San Luis Obispo not long after the cost line was reopened. It had been closed due to a washout in Santa Barbara.
